Warrior Poses: Empowerment Through Yoga

Life-long wellness is a goal most of us share. Included in your goals may be the ability to reduce emotional stress, improve self-esteem and ward off diseases.

Opening your mind by practicing Yoga is like learning the power of a mega computer that can manage each elements of your goal. One of the best groups of poses that build the capacity of your body to stand on your feet and pull through life are the Warrior poses.

From the physical level, I consider that the Warrior Asanas (Virabhadrasana I, II, III) help release our bodies from stress on the heart, bolster the immune system and balance the endocrine system. On the emotional level we build peace, tranquility and fortitude through the breathing practises (pranayama) while energizing the metabolism to manage cortisol and endorphin levels.

Focusing on warrior poses, we principally enhance circulation to strengthen masses of the body. We benefit by extending legs outwards while simultaneously opening the heart and strengthening the back. The back muscles are elongated and aligned with new precision and capacity for carrying the body through a full range of motion and emotion. The upper back and shoulders squeeze and extend providing a variety of benefits for the heart, circulatory system and overall build flexibility and build confidence. Overall, I consider these three poses as essential to reduce joint stiffness.

The great benefit of working with an instructor or researching yoga is the concept of modifying poses. With such an array of benefits you can slowly concentrate on smaller objectives to approach greater stability, strength, balance and flexibility. While the guidelines for joint placement are prescribed, each pose can be modified to establish targets for leg width, neck position, arm angle and overall flexibility. Remembering that as you progress you are increasingly bringing oxygenated blood to these areas.

As a whole, these weight bearing warrior poses bring about promised results. It is empowering to know that we can stimulate bones through the years and help to retain calcium and reduce stress.

Fall 2017 Reiki 21-Day Purification Retreat

Dawn

Day 2
Use the spark of sunrise to enliven our path ahead

Sunrise can present a spot of hope of joy and a way to not delve into the known or unknown. Sunrise avoids the how to agenda and rigorous path by teaching us to move slowly and celebrate the mystery. It is a pause – one of gratitude and reverence.

At the beginning of the day is the true breath, pushing through slumber. The morning air brings the spirit of the breath and is precious, divine and something that awakens our senses for the day. The morning dawn energy gives us ozone exchanges like no other time and the molecules are energized and excited with the light. Connecting to this time, being outside, observing our senses helps us adapt with intuition throughout the day.

Use Pranayama practice, breathing techniques each morning. Start with five minutes. Allow yourself an upright posture. Breathe the air slowly in and release slowly. Then, connect the inhalation to gratitude for the day and the exhalation celebrate the gift of life. Afterwords conduct a light stretch.

Walking on this Earth

Reiki Healing to move fully on the Path

Slowing and carefully be in the time of receiving Reiki energy.

One of my favorite ways to enhance the energy of Reiki is to send it from the garden. Whether it's the autumn leaves rustling, the Spring burst of nesting activity or the respite from Summer heat.

I am bringing the Reiki channeling tonight outside to help you experience a sense of well-being and connection.

So take a breath and low your pace down to the evening time of transition. Find yourself with the late afternoon glow. Sense the physical peace around you and swirl your spine, your arms, and toes into your chair or on the bench.

Let the time lapse and enjoy this contact as the Reiki senses you.

Reiki Symbols

Tapping into today's channeling of Reiki Healing (which is at 7:30 p.m. tonight) consider the power of the symbols.

Spiritual empowerment is connected to the kanjis or symbols of Reiki. When someone receives Reiki healing consider the power they power comes into the recipients body. The symbols might be seen as energetic factors to organize the energy.

When the process of an attunement is carried out by a Master Teacher the symbols are activated. The energies are a sacred pattern (geometrical or vibrational) and come into the students mind so that they can use the symbols. The same energies they were connected to to during the attunements now begin flowing.

As we finish out this second week of the Retreat begin to feel the energy moving through your body during the sessions. Also if you are attunded with the symbols, reflect on how the treatments you give to yourself of another (plant, human or animal) change in the next couple of days.

Higher Purpose

What your purpose is can change from day to day. During the 21-day meditation we get a change to discover some of the barriers and inhibitions of our resonance with this path. Today we begin a meditation to lift some of that away.

In your daily meditation, relax and focus on your breathing.

  • Allow your heart and mind to open to your higher self. Literally give yourself permission to do this.
  • Allow a golden light to connect you gently to the ground.
  • Visualize that light coming from a source above you.
  • Now allow other strands of dense energy being dissolved from you as if your feet were lighter.
  • Let yourself sense walking on a path with that lightness.
  • In this walk ask that your "Guidance" remain connected to your Divine Path. You are free to ask anytime for this guidance.
  • Continue walking sensing how it feels to be unstuck, confident and curious of your whole surroundings.
This meditation can be repeated in a Mindful Walking path as well as a seated meditation through the week. Continue to observe how new things flow into your life's journey. And Just for today, do your work honestly.

You Can Make a Difference

Consider it's 2017. It is a time of interconnectedness and globalization. The quickening and expansion of technology and changes in our world views keep us in a state of change.

What the 21-Day Reiki experience allows us to do is open to your unique roll in this time. To be receptive. To contemplate what your experiences have been.

This week look at the principal: Do Your Work Honestly.

Consider how you are in service in your life. Consider how you have trusted your unique gifts and followed through with your dreams. Consider what triggers you in the needs around you for helping, inventing, discovering and creating.

Sure traditional concerns will arise: financial, educations, timing, etc. And with that ask yourself if any of those are real? Have your past successes shown you a way through all obstacles? Can you remember divine timing?

Making Earth Connection

Imagine yourself creating a connection with the Earth. This can be done by simply getting into nature and suspending thinking for a while. Your physical body will feel safe when you make a conscious grounding to nature. This is an essential part of successful meditation.

You can also allow yourself to feel a silver cord of energy from the base of your spine down to the Earth. Lovingly connect to the earth as a living being.

Journey

Allow yourself to journey into a center point of awareness within the earth. Give yourself time to completely setting into a gnarl of a tree or through a cave entrance. Continue on and as you breath deeper and more consciously continue to feel safe and embrace the space of love that the earth is providing. Settle into the is new space and allow your subconscious mind to also settle. This is a powerful time to affirm what your intentions.

 Affirmation

Completely resonate with the affirmation you've written. Examples: "I am Peace", "I am Light and Love", "I connect to wisdom and truth".

Allow what your affirmation and thoughts to let go. Take a deep breath, and when you are ready to open your eyes do so gently. Return to your sense of surroundings; touch the earth, place your body on the ground, etc.

This Centering meditation will allow you to create a link to your higher self. Record your thoughts and plan to try again during this 21-day meditation.

Namaste.

Walking in Beauty - Mindfulness in Protest

The senses are heightened during a crowd gathering, rally, protest or March.  Using the principles of mindful walking to prepare oneself and participate in such an experience can support a more favorable process and build momentum for ongoing action.

Before I ventured to the Women's March SLO #wmslo #whyimarch its was good to review the principles of Mindful Walking #peditation and connect to the peace principles I have been cultivating alone and with groups walks in open spaces.

I also reflected on over 25 years ago, when, during the initial stages of the Gulf War I watched as U.S. involvement began to escalate. The awareness of divergent opinions became more acute as well. Soon the voices in the media representing diverse opinions began to challenge the status quo and comfort of daily life. I began to feel a tug and pull of heart and mind, from my own spiritual inner tranquility and my external works as a budding political analyst.

What was my response going to be and how would I reconcile the convoluted international pressures and intentions behind the war with the struggle to prevent education and help ready our society with a sense of cultural understanding.

In the next few days I was blessed to have an engagement in Washington D.C. The night I arrived the airspace above Federal buildings was electrified as helicopters landed at the White House. The news channels were abuzz with reports of that President Bush would declare war. Gazing and listening, I observed the juxtaposition of my senses and the National Monument – a tribute to a man the once united the U.S. in a common purpose. First thing in the morning I walked to the White House, beckoned by the sound of drummers who'd gathered at Our Peace Park. I joined in as they continued a heartbeat of drums inciting a great vibrational reverberations that spurred my senses. It ignited my involvement and launched my response and avoided a sense of disenfranchisement.

The experience strengthened my involvement in community dialogue. And, among protests, letters, and showing up we built a better understanding and safety was achieved in appreciation of diversity including residents representing voices from the Middle East.

To engage in a protest march can be a journey of understanding. Something calls you, an initial or sustained stress where collective action is one of many important responses.

January 21st, 2017 was the emergence of the Women’s March on Washington 2017 and Marches throughout the U.S. and Internationally. "Emergence" because many citizens found collective voice and optimism. Others may have been encouraged to become further involved as I had in 1991.

This guideline brings the principles of Mindful Walking which can be a help to sustain a path of peace and activism. Through peace courage, action and humility we may find we share the common path.

There may be other challenges you are feeling in your life, your community or family. The path is helpful with all types of challenges. The fundamental exercises help to hone a response and celebrate the focus on Peacemaking or "Walking in Beauty".

Initial Stress: Recognize the process or actions have caused emotion or pain and possibly fear. These emotions can have physical manifestations. Begin by understanding how you are feeling in the situation and become clear that these feelings could be triggers so continue to review your outlook and connect with your feelings and needs.

Urgency/Having to Do Something: the situation has compelled a need for action. Taking actions is often best exercised with clarity and planning. While you begin to declare and take action, reflect on how the response is "right for you". Continue to review your feelings and needs to plan an authentic response. Use familiar tools of meditation, self care and healthy activities to help you dissect areas of empathy.

Experiencing Conflict Among People: If your path makes you an Agent of Change conflict may be inevitable. Here you begin to embrace conflict and find your voice, communicate your thoughts be it on Facebook, among family members or even in random exchanges. This polarizing stage can stall your response.  Remember the qualities honed from time in reflection, walking in nature or prayer. Try to empathize and avoid negative thoughts to take hold. Patience, respect and understanding are at the core of change.

Avoid a Sense of disenfranchisement: keep with your plan, cultivate understanding, remember self care and ask for help.

Get/Stay Informed: If the stress is a collective issue there will be other groups, peace organizations, or mentors from spiritual or educational groups that provide information, sharing and common reflection. You may also find encouragement from the readings and experiences of iconic leaders such as Gandhi and M.L. King, Jr. or trusted media outlets.

Right Action/Walking in Beauty: Begin to Be Loving, Be hopeful, Be Peaceful. At times this will seem arduous but “get off of the mountain” of the stress and conflict and find ways to increase resolve to employ these potent tools for change.

Discovering Your Strength:  Mix it up. Try small contributions or long-term actions such as making calls, writing letters, or helping to organize an event. A plan will give you more confidence towards maintaining your path to peace. Go to trusted groups, mentors or attend forum where you can get information and take new steps.

Wayfinding/Synchronicity: When the time comes for action you have a choice to become involved in a community activity. Public events, marches, ongoing protests and campaigns are out there. Stay open to forums that are right for you, watch for signs that bring insight on your journey to peace. Attempt to do what you can and share while being watchful.

Showing Up: With good groundwork your truest intentions begin to move forward. With inner resources available this may be to moment, the commitment leads to momentum.

Continue in Peace.
